A Dodge Ram 3500 dually to be exact. The one pictured above is a spitting image of the one in the story.
Back in the day in the suburbs outside of DC, we had a nice 4 day weekend from school. The weather was nice, we were all licensed, and we decided to go camping. That was really an excuse for us to go have a nice big bonfire, bbq, and maybe dabble with a little THC. What car do you take camping though? A big one of course!
My friend Danny was very, very wealthy. He lived on the edge of the suburbs, in a place mostly occupied by large mansions and golf courses. We could stay out of trouble hanging out there, which was great. His dad had just picked up a new truck, and he told us we should take it as he was going away for the weekend anyways. The new truck was a fully loaded, very expensive, very large dually that he bought as a tow rig/hobby truck. Way too nice and valuable to give to some high schoolers for a weekend, but we didn't complain.
It was perfect, 5 of us piled in with our stuff (that still didn't fill up the bed) and set off. Our destination was a place recommended by Danny's dad, only 30ish minutes away. Danny drove the truck like a champ on those twisty back roads. Seriously, those are the roads I now take my BMW on to have some fun. I didn't realize at the time that my friend was piloting a boat on those roads without even struggling. He deserved major props for getting us there without issue.
Once night fell, we got our fire going, ate, had a few brews, and had a great time. We decided that 2 people could sleep in the truck (one across the front bench and one across the rear) and 3 could squeeze into the bed. Naturally, it started raining so we were all stuck in the truck. Now, doing what any logical teenagers possessing marijuana would do when in an enclosed area, we hotboxed the FUCK out of that truck.
That pretty much went on until the rain went away, which was a while. Once it stopped we aired out the truck a little and passed out. We woke up the next morning absolutely starving, and feasted until we felt like sleeping again. We hiked and did other fun outdoor stuff for the next two days, then we packed it all up and got ready to head back home. One problem... The truck smelled like the dankest of weed. Not good. We drove with the windows down the whole way home, only to be met with a lingering smell. We vacuumed, shampooed the carpets, cleaned the leather, etc. but that made the car smell.. Too fresh. Way too fresh for a car that just took a group of guys camping.
We drove around with the heat on for a while to get some manly stench in the cabin, which worked great until we ran out of gas. Let me tell you, the Ram 3500 dually is no lightweight. She doesn't move as gracefully as say a Miata would. We were all about ready to pass out once we got the truck to a gas station, where the diesel pump just so happened to be broken. My genius self realized that Danny's dad probably had triple A, and we found the card in the glovebox. A tow truck showed up with a gallon of diesel and we drove it straight to the next station and topped her off. We arrived at Danny's and his dad walked outside to greet us.
As he walks up to the truck he goes.. "Man... You guys stink!"

Why not just tell him that you got the truck cleaned too show your gratitude for letting him take it?I don't think I'd of thought it odd if I was the father.

Someone in my high school class drove a maroon one of these. She double parked it at a strip club one night, got it towed and had to have her dad pick her up. This made me smile due to the fact that I didnt like her very much

with the truck being new and very expensive, the local dodge dealer gave him free car washes for a year, so whenever it needed to be washed he would just take it there.

We used to refer to that type of truck as a "Cattleman's Sportscar." It also had a 4 speed 454 and pulled our 6 ton Vermeer trencher.
